Job Description

The Avery Dennison Identification Solutions Group North America is looking for a Controls Engineer to join the team at our manufacturing site in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In this position, you will report to the Engineering Manager and serve as the site’s primary technical expert for industrial control systems, OT networks, and automation projects. You will drive continuous improvement, lead capital upgrades, and provide high-level troubleshooting support to our very capable maintenance team.

Work Model: On-site position in Fort Wayne, IN.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, program, implement, and maintain advanced PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems across the facility, while driving standardization of control systems across diverse equipment sets.

  • Manage the facility’s OT networks in collaboration with corporate IT to maintain industrial cybersecurity adherence and data integrity.

  • Lead capital projects, equipment installation, technology upgrades, and equipment migrations, assisting in the development of divisional strategic capital plans, including the ongoing strategic migration of legacy hardware and the automation, drives, and controls strategy.

  • Provide high-level troubleshooting, root-cause problem solving, and long-term engineered solutions for complex controls, drive, or network issues to support the skilled maintenance department.

  • Identify safety issues, implement effective solutions, maintain electrical documentation via AutoCAD, and conduct training for maintenance and operations personnel on new systems and machine adjustments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 3-5+ years of controls, automation, or electrical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (including 2+ years of capital project management).

  • Strong programming and troubleshooting capability with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, AutomationDirect, ABB, Lenze), along with experience in drive configurations (Allen Bradley Powerflex and Siemens), HMI/SCADA (Aveva/Wonderware), and Safety PLCs/circuits.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical design and working knowledge of Electrical Codes (NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, IEEE 3000) and PLC standards (IEC 61131-3: LD, FBD, ST, SFC).

  • Practical understanding of OT networking and MS Windows server environments.

  • Self-directed self-starter with strong execution capabilities and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively across IT, Maintenance, Operations, and Management.
