Industrial Engineering Lead

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to our Toledo location.

This position may offer relocation assistance.

The Role:

In this role your work will be of a technical nature with decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies and standards. Your work will involve complex manufacturing

problems including the need to troubleshoot and follow issues to completion. You will

work directly with Production leadership in implementing Lean Manufacturing systems.

The main purpose of the Lead Industrial Engineer is to work to eliminate waste of time,

money, materials, person-hours, machine time, energy and other resources that do not

generate value. The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is

critical to succeed in this role.

In this position your use of independent discernment is required. You will use substantial

independent judgment in complex or unusual situations. Your responsibility may involve

training others and assigning work to a small group of employees.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Maintain awareness of quality standards, and communicates department quality
  • Prioritization of workload to enable employees to accomplish all responsibilities
  • Project management for large projects for equipment
  • Creation & maintenance of engineering standardized work
  •  Providing technical directions to and oversight of outside vendor sources
  • Providing technical directions and coordination for less experienced industrial
  • Engineers
  • Perform People Leader responsibilities for direct reports including but not limited to:
     CAP – goal setting, mid-year and year-end reviews, managing results and evaluating/coaching individual performance, compensation planning and communication, training and development planning
  • Support manager with general administrative tasks such as managing budget targets, approving travel requests, expense reports, and purchasing requests, & planning vacation schedules
  • Direct the design, development, and/or improvement of manufacturing processes for assigned area
  • You will provide technical support for specific plant operations  
  • You will interact on a regular basis with production, finance, and manufacturing engineering staff.
  • You will evaluate or monitor expenditure for processes and/or equipment
  • You will handle engineering projects with plants and/or Manufacturing Engineering Staffs
  •  Implement common Industrial Engineering business practices and processes.
  • Design work operations that meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements with high integrity.
  • Maintain accurate time studies through motion analysis and application of standard time data.
  • Maintain accurate routings of parts to their assembly location.
  • Maintain accurate workstation layouts using computer aided drafting software (AutoCAD).
  • Drive Continuous Improvement efforts in assigned areas through elimination of waste.
  • Evaluate bottleneck areas and support throughput and productivity improvements in assigned areas.
  • Support change management projects by developing line balance plans and participating in production trials.
  • Reduce total cost by improving productivity metrics related to operator work loading and value-added percent.
  • Participate in lean manufacturing through implementation of GM’s Global Manufacturing System.
  • Support implementation and training for standardized work development.
  • Become a coach and teacher of lean manufacturing principles to the production floor team members.
  • Drive problem solving efforts.
  • Work collaboratively as one team with all levels of the organization.
  • Develop relationships with Production department and related personnel and
  • influence cross-functional partners.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree with major in Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Competencies: Proven ability to design work operations that meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements. Knowledge of Standardized Work (STDS), Assembly Line Balance (APS), Benchmark Calculator (BMC), Simulations, Man-Machine Charts, Indirect Labor Studies, Purchasing Planning & Financial Tracking, and Throughput Improvement Process (TIP)
  • Manufacturing Engineering or Plant IE experience with a minimum of 5 years
