You will work closely with Government principal investigators and research teams to keep laboratory and human-subjects studies moving safely and accurately. This role is well suited to a detail-oriented physiologist who enjoys practical study execution and can shift between participant visits, equipment and laboratory maintenance, IRB support, Excel-based data work, and scientific documentation.
What You’ll Do in Your New Role
- Conduct protocol-authorized physiological data collection and support participant visits in environmental and exercise-physiology studies.
- Perform phlebotomy and basic laboratory procedures, including blood processing, labeling, reconciliation, storage, and documentation as required by the protocol.
- Prepare study stations and verify current protocol documents, supplies, labels, equipment status, calibrations, and data-capture readiness before collection.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces, track calibration and preventive-maintenance needs, and report or segregate equipment that does not pass readiness checks.
- Assist with preparation and maintenance of IRB and other regulatory documents using current, controlled forms and study records.
- Clean, process, and perform initial analysis of research data in Microsoft Excel while preserving raw data and documenting changes.
- Generate accurate tables and figures with appropriate titles, labels, units, sample sizes, and traceability to source data.
- Identify missing, inconsistent, or biologically implausible data and coordinate documented resolution with the study team.
- Support laboratory or field research outside normal hours and travel within CONUS when required by study schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in exercise physiology, environmental physiology, human physiology, kinesiology, biomedical science, or a closely related field.
- Experience coordinating or supporting human-subjects research.
- Demonstrated environmental-physiology data-collection experience.
- Hands-on phlebotomy and basic blood-processing or clinical laboratory experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to maintain accurate, contemporaneous, audit-ready study and laboratory records.
- Ability to obtain and maintain the required favorable background investigation, CAC, facility access, and Government system access.
- Ability to work primarily on-site at USARIEM during core hours and support nights, weekends, travel, or field studies when required.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with metabolic or exercise testing, including maximal oxygen uptake, submaximal exercise, resting ventilation, or pulmonary-function testing.
- Current CITI/GCP, Basic Life Support, phlebotomy, or clinical-research certification.
- Experience supporting military, tactical, heat, cold, altitude, or subterranean research.
- Experience preparing scientific tables, figures, technical reports, posters, or manuscripts.
