Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop of custom automation equipment, fixtures, workstations, and electromechanical systems as part of a project development team;
• Create and revise 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, assemblies, and bills of materials for automation and mechatronic systems;
• Assist with the integration of robotics, machine vision, servo actuators, pneumatic components, sensors, and other automation hardware;
• Participate in concept development, component selection, design reviews, and design validation activities;
• Build, troubleshoot, and refine prototype and final-deliverable equipment;
• Support equipment commissioning, factory acceptance testing, site installation, startup, and operator training at customer sites;
• Work with internal team members and customer team members to ensure designs are aligned with project requirements;
• Document design changes, test results, and issues in a clear and timely manner;
• Identify and resolve mechanical, integration, and system performance issues during development and deployment;
• Follow company and customer requirements for machine safety, documentation, quality, and regulatory compliance;
• Support continuous improvement of engineering standards, templates, design practices, and build processes.

Required Qualifications:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering, MS Preferred;
• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in automation, machine design, or robotics integration, with specific experience designing and deploying factory automation systems;
• Proficiency with SolidWorks for assembly modeling and part design;
• Proficiency in ASME Y14.5-2018 (R2024 and ISO 286;
• Understanding of industrial safety standards and machine risk reduction principles.

 

Proven Experience:

• 3-5 custom automation machines as principal or lead engineer;
• Cell layout and simulation;
• Linear motion systems consisting of ball-screws, linear ways and servo motors;
• Pick-and-place processes including feeder and gripper development;
• Work-holding development for fixed applications and transfer systems;
• Process development including:
  • Fastening;
  • Plastic joining such as ultrasonic welding;
  • Laser processes such as welding or trimming;
  • Welding and brazing;
  • Soldering including laser or selective;
  • Metal working processes such as cutting, shearing, machining, crimping or forming;
• Hazard evaluation and safety system design;
• Design and development of precision weldments, tooling and advanced alignment and work-holding technologies;
• Equipment commissioning, debug, or startup in a production or customer environment.

 

Additional Skills:

• Sizing and selecting servo motors and drive components;
• Self-aligning design principles;
• Basic understanding of robotics, servo motion systems, PLC based automation, and industrial controls integration;
• Machine vision systems, industrial cameras, lighting, and inspection applications;
• Familiarity with Beckhoff PLCs and robots made by Epson, Fanuc or ABB;
• BOM management and revision control;
• Tolerancing & design evaluation for tolerance stack-up, clearance and fit;
• Design for manufacturability;
• PFMEA;
• FEA;
• Knowledge of machine shop practices, including CNC milling, CNC turning, welding, grinding, and heat treatment.
