Who are we looking for?
Our US East Design & Delivery Organization (DDO) is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join the team in Miami, FL as a Team Leader! This role will provide you the opportunity to participate in the planning, design and construction engineering of exciting and diverse water, wastewater, utilities, infrastructure, and site-development projects for our wide range of municipal and private clients with a key focus on linear infrastructure and contribute to the growth in an emerging geographic market.
As Team Leader, you will lead, support, and develop a team of civil engineers focused on linear infrastructure design in Florida. You will coordinate team workload, provide technical and project delivery oversight, promote consistent quality and design practices, and build a collaborative environment that supports employee growth and successful delivery for clients across the state.
While this position is based in the US Northeast region, you will have the flexibility to focus on the local market and/or become engaged in major projects worldwide supporting design operations from Australia to Europe working with diverse design teams from across the globe. Working with an energetic and hard-working team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Client & Customer Management (External): Manage important client relationships with guidance from senior colleagues, or oversee relationship management with a group of more transactional clients and customers.
- Community of Practice Management: Participate in and contribute to a community of practice in a defined area of expertise or consulting to build own capability and develop innovative practice among colleagues.
- Engineering Solutions Design: Design engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief (for example, in terms of functionality, performance, aesthetics, and cost) that conform to organizational and/or regulatory standards.
- Engineering Standards Specification: Analyze information, draft engineering standards and specifications, and evaluate the effectiveness of those standards within own engineering discipline to ensure work of the required quality is delivered and to inform engineering work in the organization and/or of its suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
- Health, Safety, and Environment: Monitor and review performance against health, safety, and environment (HSE) key performance indicators (KPIs) and patterns of behavior within the area of responsibility. Take action to improve performance and to resolve noncompliance with the organization's HSE policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions.
- Improvement/Innovation: Identify shortcomings in existing business practices, then suggest and implement improvements while developing and delivering projects or a work stream within the organization's change management program. Involves working with guidance from senior colleagues.
- Knowledge Management: Develop policies and processes, create best practices, set up case studies, and deliver internal knowledge-sharing sessions to capture and share knowledge among colleagues on project/program outcomes and innovative practices in a particular area of expertise and to support the practice.
- Needs Assessment: Uncover emerging issues or needs, identifying potential causes, barriers, and key stakeholders, as well as related issues.
- Organizational Capability Building: Use the organization's formal development framework to identify the team's individual development needs. Plan and implement actions, including continuing professional development specified by professional or regulatory institutions, to build their professional capabilities. Provide informal training or coaching to others throughout the organization in own area of expertise to enable others to improve performance and fulfill personal potential.
- Product and Solution Development: Analyze and evaluate the feasibility and relevance of proposed complex products and services and develop and amend, as necessary, with guidance from senior colleagues. May also be responsible for supervising activities performed by a product development or specialist team.
- Project Management: Manage a portfolio of projects while reporting to senior colleagues.
- Request for Bid Solicitation/Proposal/Tender Response: Gather information and resources, draft and complete proposals, and fulfill all process requirements (in terms of deadlines, documentation, etc.) in response to complex bid solicitations, request for proposal, and request for tender to create the best chance of being awarded the contract.
- Technical Developments Recommendation: Discuss and recommend more complex or innovative technical developments to improve the quality of the used technology, such as systems, processes, infrastructure, installations, and machines.
- Team Leadership: Lead and develop a group of civil engineers delivering linear infrastructure design work in Florida, including coaching, mentoring, performance support, and creating opportunities for professional growth.
- Workload and Resource Coordination: Plan and coordinate assignments across the Florida linear design team, balance workload and priorities, and collaborate with project managers and discipline leaders to align the right resources with project needs.
- Technical and Delivery Oversight: Provide technical leadership and quality oversight for linear water, wastewater, utility, and related civil infrastructure designs, promoting consistency, constructability, regulatory compliance, and timely delivery.
- Team and Market Growth: Support recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning for the Florida linear design team while strengthening client relationships and contributing to growth of the linear infrastructure practice throughout Florida.
What you will bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain
- At least 6 years of linear focused project experience in water / wastewater / utility / infrastructure design / transmission main / industrial pipelines/ energy sector / industrial sites / grading plans / etc.
- Modeling capabilities
- Willing and able to travel to project sites and client meetings as needed
- Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating civil engineering teams responsible for linear infrastructure design and project delivery
- Ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate team workload, and foster collaboration across offices, disciplines, and project teams
- Knowledge of Florida linear infrastructure design practices, permitting considerations, and municipal or private utility client needs is preferred
