About The Role:
This role combines hands-on construction materials testing with day-to-day team leadership. You will spend much of your time outdoors testing soil, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials while helping a small team work safely, efficiently, and to S&ME quality standards. As a Team Lead, you will generally supervise two or more employees, with responsibility for no more than 10 team members.
- Project and Document Analysis: Comprehend project specifications before fieldwork; precisely document observations and test outcomes related to construction materials, including soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials.
- Metafield® Application: Effectively handle data using field and lab information systems.
- Equipment Maintenance: Verify that field and laboratory equipment are precise and comply with industry standards.
- Special Inspection Monitoring: Adhere to International Building Code (IBC) guidelines for testing and inspecting construction materials.
- Stakeholder Interaction: Communicate with supervisors, contractors, and clients to report on project status and address any issues.
- Team Leadership: Lead by example and coach, train, and mentor employees while supporting a positive, safety-focused, and accountable team environment.
- Staffing and Resource Coordination: Partner with the Services Manager, project managers, and other team leaders to assign qualified staff, balance workloads, and support project and office goals.
- Employee Support: Provide feedback, contribute to performance reviews, support recruiting and onboarding, and consult with management and Human Resources on staff-related matters as needed.
- Administrative Oversight: Promptly review and approve team members' timesheets and expense reports, and support employees in obtaining and maintaining required training, licenses, and certifications.
Experience with shifting work hours based on project needs and weather conditions, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime (paid at time-and-a-half).
About You:
- You have a High School diploma/GED
- You have a minimum of 2 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
- You have previous experience leading, supervising, training, or mentoring employees; prior managerial experience is preferred
- You can make sound decisions, manage time and deadlines, communicate effectively with clients and employees, and use company technology for field results and employee-related processes
- You have active industry certifications, such as:

- American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
- International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
- DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
- GWSCC Level 1A, 1B, or 2
- You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
- You have math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
- You understand a fluctuating work schedule and occasional travel
- You have a valid U.S. driver's license or an International Driving Permit (IDP) valid for driving in the United States, with an acceptable driving record
- You can safely operate a company-assigned vehicle, including trucks and SUVs
- You are willing to complete a background check, driving record check, and drug screen upon offer of employment
You Are Willing and Able to:
Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing (potentially up to 12 hours a day)
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40- 50 lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Working outside of normal business hours and traveling (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project needs arise
