Summary

This position is for a AIRCRAFT FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, PD# D0646000, part of the Nevada Army National Guard. The position is responsible for providing instruction, evaluation and examination of rated pilots, instructor pilots and aero scout observers in flying techniques and methods of instruction, examination and evaluation. Instruction involves basic and advanced techniques for flying aircraft using instruments.

Duties

Plans and implements flight training and instruction for rated pilots and instructor pilots in accordance with individual needs. For a substantial portion of the time (at least 20%), performs one or more of the following: (a) trains, instructs, and evaluates pilots in operating aircraft using advanced instrument flight techniques; (b) instructs pilots in methods of instruction and evaluates instructor pilots' proficiency to engage in flight instruction; or (c) instructs pilots in operating advanced attack helicopters or heavy multi-engine advanced transport helicopters. Conducts training flights involving operation of an aircraft by reference to instruments and use of automatic direction-finding equipment, such as omnidirectional radials, ground-control approach, and instrument landing systems on and off Federal airways. Conducts refresher, mission, and continuation combat training in advanced attack helicopters involving aggressor and defensive maneuvers and aerial gunnery practice with heavy ordnance and/or trains and instructs pilots in the operation of heavy multi-engine transport helicopters to transport equipment and personnel in combat situations. Trains pilots in the full range of aircraft maneuvers required in combat situations. Provides instruction in emergency procedures, such as loss of propulsion, directional control, or related systems. Performs flights in all weather/environmental conditions, day and night, and using night vision devices. Prepares and presents related classroom instruction. Recommends whether pilots remain in flight status. May conduct refresher, mission, and continuation training in light fixed-wing or utility and observer helicopters. Trains pilots in basic and advanced techniques required to support the pilot's unit mission. Conducts training flights involving a substantial degree of hazard, such as training helicopter pilots in advanced flight techniques required in combat situations, tactical flying at night in all weather conditions and with the use of night vision devices, flight maneuvers that take advantage of the terrain, low-level flight, short-field takeoffs and landings, flying in formation, evasive maneuvers, and emergency procedures involving engine failures and malfunctions of hydraulic and electrical systems over hazardous terrain. Performs routine operational flight assignments. Transports passengers, including dignitaries, to and from a variety of different points. As required, performs maintenance test flights of aircraft following repair or maintenance. Advises and represents the Commander on all matters concerning aviation/ground safety related to the facility. Ensures the facility conforms to Public Law in areas of occupational health and safety. Plans, organizes, and supervises social activities for all personnel assigned to the facility. Publishes and coordinates new and revised directives and procedures designed to promote safety at the facility. Reviews these directives and procedures with the supported aviation unit safety offices. Acts as the facility liaison officer with all outside safety offices and agencies. Coordinates these activities with the Facility Commander. Develops, maintains, and rehearses current accident and pre-accident prevention plans for the aviation facility. Conducts facility safety meetings/lectures and establishes a continuing program to promote the Safety Awareness and Accident Prevention Programs. Ensures effective implementation and compliance with safety directives issued by higher authority pertaining to the facility and assists the Facility Commander in determining the necessity for and issuance of local supplements. Develops and ensures maximum distribution of safety literature and materials to all facility personnel. Makes available and maintains a file of aviation and ground safety materials, directives, and literature. Monitors the safety efforts of the aviation unit safety officers supported by the facility and assists them in the development of their accident prevention programs. Receives, investigates, and reports on all alleged facility safety violations and safety-related suggestions. Monitors techniques and proficiency of aircrews in handling weapons, ammunition, and POL. Inspects physical conditions of facilities for hazards. Posts all known hazards and recommends or takes action to eliminate hazards. Assists in developing and monitors the facility Aviation Life Support Equipment Program. Serves as a member of an accident investigation board when ordered. Serves as advisor to the facility commander and others on safety concerns or missions, such as drug interdiction/eradication supported by the facility. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. In compliance with Title 32 United States Code, the compatible military skill set is determined by the applicable service manpower requirements. Upon selection, individuals are assigned to the authorized position and its compatible military skill in accordance with Army skill classification directives, statutes, and National Guard Bureau regulations. The Dual Status technician must obtain and maintain all military skill requirements in regard to training, education, certifications, experience. Compatible Military Assignment: WARRANT OFFICER: WO2 through WO3 Compatible MOS: 153DC *Other Requirements & Conditions of Employment: - National Guard Membership is required. - Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. - Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. - Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. - May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. - Must maintain local network access IAW AR 25-2. - Wear the uniform appropriate for the members' grade and component of the armed forces, maintaining standards of conduct and appearance. - This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. - Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission. - May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required. - The duties and responsibilities of your job may significantly impact the environment. Qualifications and evaluation

Knowledge of Army aviation doctrine, aircraft limitations, flight publications, and applicable FAA and Army regulations governing flight operations and instruction. Instructor Pilot Skills-Skill in planning, conducting, and evaluating flight instruction in accordance with the Army Aircrew Training Program (ATP), Aircrew Training Manual (ATM/ATS), and applicable Training Circulars. Ability to instruct, evaluate, and mentor pilots during day, night, NVG, instrument, and tactical flight operations while ensuring standardization and adherence to Army Aviation safety requirements. Operational Experience and Mission Execution-Demonstrated ability to safely plan and execute complex rotary-wing missions in diverse operational environments. Experience serving as Pilot in Command during multi-ship, tactical, instrument, external load, air assault, MEDEVAC, or other operational missions, with the ability to apply sound aeronautical decision-making and risk management principles under dynamic conditions. Leadership, Standardization, and Safety-Ability to provide leadership and technical guidance to aviators while promoting standardization, crew coordination, and disciplined adherence to Army Aviation safety principles. Knowledge of the Army Safety Program, Crew Resource Management (CRM), Operational Risk Management (ORM), and aviation maintenance considerations necessary to ensure safe and effective flight operations. Communication and Professional Development-Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with pilots, aircrew members, commanders, and maintenance personnel. Skill in preparing flight evaluations, counseling and mentoring aviators, maintaining required training records, and providing professional instruction to develop and sustain individual and unit readiness.
