Program Description:Ā 

The Sophomore Career Exploration Internship gives undergraduate sophomores the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at a unique institution. Through dynamic, project-based work assignments and professional development activities, students get:Ā

Sophomore interns work in one specific business area or function forĀ tenĀ weeks, andĀ have access to opportunities for collaboration with other students and employees from around the Bank.Ā Ā

Our Unique Work:Ā 

  • The Group Shared ServicesĀ (GSS)Ā Function of the Research and Statistics Group (RSG) provides long-term value andĀ high-qualityĀ service for internal and external customers and stakeholders by managing key processes, communicating business information, managing computing infrastructure, publishing and promoting Bank research, supporting the collection of data series, and optimizing the use of technology and business tools.Ā Ā

HowĀ You’llĀ Make an Impact as aĀ Group Shared Service InternĀ (Sophomore)Ā 

Within GSS, we have three roles open on three separate teams:Ā 

Ā 

  • The Research Publishing team serves as the final gateway for written and visual communications for the Research and Statistics Group. The team handles the design and dissemination of economics thinking and policy work for the Bank through a variety of innovative digital experiences, in addition to the promotion of this work.Ā You wouldĀ assistĀ in the creation of assets for the publication and promotion of the work of the Research economists. You would help to develop engaging visuals that solve diverse design challenges in social media marketing, UI/UX design, and multi-channel visual storytelling for an educated audience with an interest in financial topics.Ā 

Ā 

  • The Research and Statistics Product teams set Group technology strategy and ensure the delivery of critical technology solutions.Ā As a summer product intern, you must have a demonstrated interest in product management, economics, public policy, mathematics or statistics, and a strong academic record. During your internship, you will utilize established methods and tools to perform moderately complex analyses of business issues, work alongside product team with clients and other resources to assess current capabilities, identify customer needs and assist in recommendation process improvements,Ā and support the team by gathering, analyzing,Ā and compiling information from end-users and stakeholders to ensure processes, software and/or applications meet business requirements. You may alsoĀ participateĀ in cross-functional team initiatives, processĀ improvementĀ and/or product support

  • The Digitalization Center of Excellence (COE) advances strategic goals by integrating data analytics, process automation, and AI enablement activities and solutions across the Research & Statistics Group. We employ an engineering approach to build scalable, insight-driven tools that focus onĀ optimizeĀ workflows and decision-making. Our recent work has focused heavily on AI enablement initiatives, including driving adoption of generative AI tools through forums and trainings, developing resources such as prompt libraries, and experimenting with agentic workflows that enhance operational efficiency. We partner across RSG to implement self-service technologies, manage change effectively, and build sustainable products and practices that align with long-term strategicĀ objectives. You will be working on projects that combine your technical capabilities with your curiosity about emerging AI technologies.Ā

Skills unique to each role:Ā Ā 

The Digital Design Support intern:Ā 

  • Social Media:Ā Create visuals, schedule, and monitor metrics for platforms like LinkedIn and X.Ā 

  • UI/UX Design:Ā Assist in designing and prototyping digital experiences for newyorkfed.org/research.Ā 

  • Graphic Design:Ā Produce high-quality digital assets, infographics, slide decks, and marketing materials that align with brand guidelines.Ā 

Ā 

The Product Team intern:Ā 

  • Must have a demonstrated interest in product management and be pursuing a degree or advanced certification in technology, management, economics, finance, or related field with a strong academic record.Ā Ā Ā 

  • Interested in problem solving through technology or process improvementĀ Ā 

  • Strong project management skills, including organization, planning, and execution, analytical and problem-solving skills    

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel,Ā WordĀ and PowerPoint)Ā Ā 

  • Knowledge of PDLC and AgileĀ methodologyĀ is a plus.Ā 

Ā 

The Digitization Center of Excellence Intern:Ā 

Required:Ā 

  • AI/GenAI Experience:Ā Practical experience with prompt engineering, working with LLM-based tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT), and understanding of agentic AI workflowsĀ 

  • Technical Skills:Ā Programming skills (Python preferred), experience with data manipulation, and comfort working with APIs or automation toolsĀ 

  • Analytical Mindset:Ā Ability to translate business problems into technical solutions and think through scalable approachesĀ 

Preferred:Ā 

  • Experience with workflow automation or RPA conceptsĀ 

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau,Ā PowerBI)Ā 

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS) orĀ MLOpsĀ conceptsĀ 

  • Strong communicationĀ skills to support change management and user adoption effortsĀ

Salary Range:Ā Ā Your regular wages for the 10 weeks will be paid on a semi-monthly basis and will be calculated based on an annual salary ofĀ $65,600Ā

We pay individuals along this range based on their unique backgrounds.
