Duties
VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS) in Dallas, Texas, is actively recruiting a full time Deputy Chief of Staff who will be based at the Dallas VA Medical Center. We are seeking a dynamic physician leader to join one of the largest university-affiliated VA Medical Centers, with a diversified, multi-specialty staff of academic faculty and experienced medical professionals. The successful candidate will be a highly competent, energetic physician with demonstrated excellence as a leader, a passion for teamwork and continuous improvement, and a record of embracing systems redesign principles. The Deputy Chief of Staff works integrally with the Chief of Staff team as a key executive in the planning, execution, oversight and management of this highly complex health care services delivery, educational, and medical research enterprise. Significant relevant leadership experience and demonstrated motivation to guide this broad array of VHA missions at VANTHCS will be necessary qualifications for the successful candidate.\ The incumbent will serve as a member of the senior leadership team ensuring that high quality patient care is delivered to our Veterans and that facility programs reflect the mission and priorities of the VA. The incumbent will also have direct oversight of clinical and research services in the achievement of VA/VHA performance goals in the absence of the Chief of Staff. The position offers excellent opportunities to interact with an outstanding and diverse house staff and faculty, to oversee basic and clinical research, and to help shape the dynamic evolution of an innovative VA Health Care System. VANTHCS is an innovative health care provider in the heart of Texas. Poised as VHA's second largest health care system, we serve over 156,000 Veterans and deliver nearly two million outpatient encounters of care each year to Veterans in 38 counties in Texas and two in southern Oklahoma. We have 6,500 employees and 1,700 community volunteers who serve at either the Dallas VA Medical Center, Garland VA Medical Center, Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center, one of our five outpatient clinics providing primary care and specialty care in Dallas, Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Plano, and Tyler, or otherwise support the primary care provided by our five contract community-based outpatient clinics. VANTHCS provides comprehensive health services through primary, secondary, tertiary and long-term care in many disciplines including internal medicine, surgery, mental health, and rehabilitation. The over 600 bed system has a regional Spinal Cord Injury Center, comprehensive Domiciliary Care Program, and Community Living Center with a dedicated hospice unit. In 2009, a Fisher House was established on the Dallas campus to provide no-cost temporary lodging in a home-like setting for families of Veterans or active duty military personnel undergoing treatment at the facility. VANTHCS is in the vanguard of advanced clinical specialty services including interventional cardiology, interventional radiology, cutting edge nuclear medicine imaging, robot-assisted surgery, and dedicated hematology/oncology and HIV care. Recognizing the importance of educating tomorrow's clinicians, we have an extraordinary teaching mission that provides education and experience to over 2,500 medical and dental residents, students, and nursing and allied health trainees every year. As a major VHA research center, VANTHCS supports more than 90 principal investigators and 400 research staff who work daily to create advances in our understanding and treatment of diseases and disabilities that affect Veterans and the general population. VANTHCS is moving forward to reach new heights in providing patient-centered care with its steadfast commitment to continuous quality improvement and personal touch.
