Job Description

The Role

As the Safety Supervisor for the Customer Care and Aftersales Ypsilanti and Willow Run facilities, this position requires championing ownership of several elements and performance standards of the Workplace Safety System. This includes, but is not limited to, regulatory requirements, safe work practices, and monitoring and measuring. It also encompasses performance standards such as ergonomics, chemical control, noise, and design-in safety expectations. Key coordination and participation in Workplace Safety committees are also expected in this role.

The Ypsilanti and Willow Run facilities of the Customer Care and Aftersales Division are a mix of processing and warehousing utilizing newer packaging and storage technologies, including robotic palletizing cells. This role includes joint participation with UAW counterparts for Safety and Ergonomics in a UAW environment. A strong safety representation is essential to ensure that on-going operations meet all regulatory and GM requirements.

What You’ll Do

  • Champion element and performance standards of safety ownership with excellence

  • Coach and develop other WSS champions to level 3 maturity expectation

  • Drive compliance in existing processes and ensure deployment of new technologies meet GM and OSHA criteria.

  • Be a strong participant in the role of Joint Ergonomics Technician

  • Analyze data and trends for continuous improvement opportunities

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with strong communication skills to influence others through change that meets overall business strategies

  • Be a positive force and cultural influence to keep safety a priority for all team members and leaders

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)​​

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field, or equivalent experience

  • 4 years of experience in Safety, Environmental Manufacturing/ Operations, or related field

  • Strong social skills in facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and adhere to plans.

  • Well-developed analytical, interpersonal, and project management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient in computer software applications.

  • Ability to bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform work tasks.

  • Capable of lifting or carrying materials weighing up to 15 pounds.

  • Occasionally required to sit, climb (including using ladders and lifts), and operate vehicles and equipment.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)​

  • Multiple site responsibility and evidence of collaborative streamlining of roles and/ or processes within relative job functions

  • Experience with robotic cell safety and functionality is highly desirable

  • Experience in a leadership role within a union environment is a plus
