Position Summary

The Regional Purchasing Manager - US leads materials management and purchasing processes across assigned U.S. plants within the region. This role provides oversight, coaching, standardization, and performance support to plant purchasing teams while driving measurable improvements in material cost, inventory accuracy, supplier performance, purchase-order management, and material availability.

The role also supports assigned category-management responsibilities, partnering with the Director of Purchasing and Vice President of Purchasing on RFQ activity, purchasing agreements, supplier alignment, and strategic business needs. Approximately 75% of time is focused on materials management and purchasing functions, and 25% is focused on category management.


Key Responsibilities

Purchasing & Materials Management Leadership

  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing standardization of purchasing and materials-management processes across assigned plants, including replenishment, inventory management, cycle counting, physical inventory, receiving, E&O, and purchase-order management.
  • Monitor plant performance, identify root causes of performance gaps, and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
  • Drive measurable improvements in material cost, purchase-pricing exceptions, off-contract spending, inventory accuracy, inventory turns, material availability, E&O, and supplier performance.
  • Coach and develop plant purchasing teams and provide interim leadership or stabilization support when plants experience vacancies, system implementations, inventory challenges, or significant performance gaps.
  • Provide backup support for open plant materials management positions as needed.
  • Develop recognition practices to highlight outstanding improvements in materials processes and cost reductions across plants in the region and share best practices with other regions.

Category Management & Strategic Alignment

  • Own and manage assigned buyer categories in coordination with the Director of Purchasing and Vice President of Purchasing.
  • Support the RFQ through purchasing agreement process for assigned categories, ensuring alignment with business needs, supplier expectations, and purchasing strategy.
  • Partner with regional and plant leadership to identify sourcing, supplier, and materials-management opportunities that support operational performance.
  • Align with Regional Vice Presidents and General Managers on strategic business needs requiring Corporate Purchasing support, acting as a liaison between the region and corporate team to align resources and drive action.

Performance, Process Improvement & Best Practices

  • Establish consistent tools, routines, and reporting practices that improve visibility into plant purchasing and materials-management performance.
  • Identify and share best practices across plants and regions to strengthen process consistency, supplier execution, and operational discipline.
  • Escalate risks, barriers, and resource needs to purchasing leadership and regional leadership as appropriate.
  • Promote a strong focus on safety, quality, service, accountability, continuous improvement, and the Champion Operating Principles.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of manufactured housing or construction industry experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of plant- or corporate-level materials management experience.
  • At least 3 years of prior procurement experience.
  • Strong understanding of purchasing, inventory management, replenishment, receiving, cycle counting, physical inventory, E&O, and purchase-order management processes.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong negotiating skills and ability to support supplier and purchasing agreement processes.
  • Strong coaching and development skills with the ability to support plant purchasing teams.
  • Highly effective communication skills with the ability to align plant, regional, and corporate stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience supporting multiple plants, regions, or distributed operations.
  • Experience driving measurable improvements in material cost, inventory accuracy, inventory turns, supplier performance, and purchase-pricing controls.
  • Experience supporting category management, RFQs, supplier negotiations, or purchasing agreements.
