JOB SUMMARY

This is a 4-month seasonal position with Marion Parks & Recreation, running approximately from November through February. The primary work of this position involves the administration of the Ice Loop. Responsible for supervision of the ice loop and its employees. Duties include processing transactions of admission fees, skate rentals, and concessions merchandise. Monitoring and upholding all rules and policies of the ice loop. Perform basic maintenance including cleaning, organizing, and snow clearing. Keeps accurate recording of daily monies and daily sales. Also, does inventory, reports, and works with the recreation coordinator on scheduling of workers.

 

This employee will be required to understand all the operations of the Ice Loop, the Depot, and City Square Park. Including supervision, operations of all concession equipment, skate rentals, inventory of goods, and making decisions on all aspects of the ice loop. Responsible for cooperating with the standards set by the Recreation Superintendent and Recreation Coordinator. Also, will be prompt to work, uphold superior public relations with guests at the facility and the ability to work with fellow employees.



ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/WORK PERFORMED

    • Overall responsible for the safety and sanitation of the concession stands.
    • Conduct staff in service meetings.
    • Work with recreation coordinator to prepare work schedules.
    • Prepare evaluations of ice loop attendants.
    • Assists all staff members with daily operations of the facility.
    • Any other duties assigned by the Recreation Coordinator.
    • Inform Recreation Coordinator of any employee misconduct, tardiness or discourtesy.
    • Supervision of attendant alertness, promptness and firm consistent rule enforcement in food preparation, admittance of guests and money handling procedures.
    • Make daily inspections of facility, food, and skates.
    • Prepare report for ordering inventory.
    • Serve the public in a courteous and efficient manner.
    • Accurately input and record EVERY sale or product that is purchased in the cash register.
    • Keep concession stand and skate shack counters and supply area spotlessly clean and neat in appearance.
    • Keep shelves stocked in an attractive manner away from direct light and extreme temperatures.
    • Do not destroy any stock that appears spoiled – loss will need to be recorded by manager.
    • Check daily – refrigerator, freezer, pop coolers, popcorn popper, beverage coolers, and any other mechanized units to see that they work properly. If any machines break down, notify the manager at once.
    • Clean the concession stand before leaving work.
    • Do not allow persons to loiter around counter areas.
    • Attend all in-service or meetings as called by Manager or Recreation Coordinator.
    • Keep a daily list of needed concession supplies.
    • Enforce general rules and refer complaints to manager.
    • Provide general supervision of Ice Loop and Depot and promote safe participation.
    • Clean up trash on grounds.
    • Execute first aid or emergency procedures as necessary.
    • Perform related work as required.
    • Monitor and maintain the outdoor fire pits to ensure safety and cleanliness (training provided).
    • Assist guests with skate fitting, rentals, and returns while keeping the skate shack organized.
    • Answer questions about operations, loop rules, and amenities such as concessions and rentals.


    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • Ability to lead staff members.
    • Ability to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
    • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace or citizens encountered during work.
    • Ability to read, speak, write, and understand English to communicate effectively with fellow employees and the general public by telephone, written format, and in person.
    • Ability to repetitively bend and stoop to operate equipment in conjunction with Ice Loop operations.
    • Must have the ability to work weeknights, and weekends.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • The employee in this position must frequently lift, push, pull, climb, turn, reel, crouch, crawl, reach, twist, stand, walk, sit, hear, and see. All physical demands such as hearing, and smell may occasionally be used for safety reasons.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
    • Able to collect, record, and handle fees.
    • Be able to demonstrate basic mathematical skills.
    • Become knowledgeable in fees and charges of concession items, skate rentals, and admission fees.
    • Become knowledgeable in the use of our point-of-sale system.
    • Become knowledgeable in concessions units.
    • Be in good physical condition, neat in appearance. Must be honest, reliable, dependable, and able to work in a courteous and helpful manner with persons of all ages.
    • Background in concession-type work or handling money is desirable.
    • Standard First Aid and CPR is desirable.
    • Ability to work outdoors in winter weather conditions.
    • Customer service experience preferred.
    • Must hold valid driver’s license and possess current vehicle insurance.


    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Works primarily outdoors in winter months.
