What are we looking for?

The 3rd Party Vendor Surveillance Inspector acts as our on-site representative and quality assurance specialist within the main manufacturing supplier’s facilities. The inspector is directly responsible for executing rigorous in-process and final inspection criteria to guarantee that all standby generator enclosures and LV/MV diesel generator packages meet structural, mechanical, welding, paint/coatings, and electrical standards prior to factory release and shipping. The successful candidate will manage real-time digital inspection workflows using mobile platforms, verifying compliance against the inspection checklist. 

Shift/Schedule: This is a Temporary, Full Time position working 40-50 hours per week for six months.

Location: Manitowoc, WI

What you’ll do:

• Site Quality Inspections & Deficiency Tracking 

  • Quality Protocol Execution: Perform in-process and final inspections adhering strictly to inspection guidelines. 

  • Digital Issue Logging: Log non-conformances, minor punch items, and material defects with comprehensive photographic evidence directly in Autodesk BIM360 / ACC / CxAlloy software. 

  • Supplier Collaboration: Partner with supplier quality managers to drive root-cause analysis and verify timely closure of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) before units move to dispatch. 

• Structural & Mechanical Diagnostics 

  • Enclosure Final Checkpoints: Execute all physical and mechanical criteria per the inspection criteria, including door alignment, weather-sealing gaskets, acoustic insulation integrity, and louver operations. 

  • Mechanical & Fuel Testing: Witness hydrostatic/pneumatic leak testing on double-wall belly fuel tanks, cooling piping loops, and exhaust silencer assemblies per standard engineering specifications. 

  • Dimensional Metrology: Verify Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) envelope dimensions, mounting hole locations, interface flanges, and structural base squareness using laser measurement tools. 

• Electrical & Control Systems Verification 

  • LV/MV Systems Inspection: Audit internal low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution systems, control panels, generator main breakers, and battery chargers following the Generator Enclosure Electrical Checklist. 

  • Wiring & Grounding Oversight: Perform physical wire tug testing, inspect torque marks on critical busbar joints, verify proper wire color coding/labeling, and confirm solid equipment grounding connection continuity throughout the enclosure. 

  • Factory Testing Witness: Observe and validate generator load bank testing, insulation resistance (Megger) checks, and control sequence logic in accordance with the commissioning testing plans.

• Welding & Metallurgy Checks 

  • Structural Weld Checks: Inspect structural skid frames, enclosure panel seams, and lifting lug welds to ensure compliance with AWS D1.1 / BS EN standards. 

  • NDT & Defect Review: Review Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) documentation (e.g., Dye Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Ultrasonic) and visually verify absence of undercut, porosity, or insufficient penetration on critical structural members. 

• Outgoing Inspection & FOD Prevention 

  • FOD Checks: Conduct thorough Foreign Object Debris (FOD) checks inside engine compartments, alternator covers, and switchgear sections prior to closing enclosure doors. 

  • Shipping Sign-Off: Verify final paint/powder-coat dry film thickness (DFT), touch-up quality, tie-down lug structural soundness, and transport weatherproofing preparation before authorizing dispatch clearance.

Types of Equipment: 

• LV/MV Diesel Generator Assemblies: Factory-assembled standby power modules including engine-generator sets, low-voltage and medium-voltage alternators, and integrated fuel systems. 

• Acoustic & Weatherproof Enclosures: Heavy-duty steel module structures housing diesel generators, intake/exhaust motorized louvers, sound attenuation baffles, integrated fuel base tanks, and auxiliary support systems. 

• LV/MV Switchgear & Control Compartments: On-board control panels, circuit breakers, DC control batteries, automatic transfer switches, and utility/generator connection busbars. 

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

• Experience: 5+ years of hands-on quality inspection experience in industrial manufacturing, heavy power generation, automotive, or aerospace sectors. 

• Schematics & Blueprints: Advanced proficiency reading electrical single-line diagrams (SLDs), P&IDs, structural fabrication drawings, and mechanical enclosure layouts. 

• Welding Standards: Comprehensive knowledge of structural welding/brazing standards (AWS D1.1, ISO 9606, or BS EN standards) with certified visual inspection competence. 

• Electrical & Controls Knowledge: Solid background in LV/MV electrical distribution systems, insulation testing, breaker testing, and grounding safety protocols. 

• Metrology & Quality Tools: Proficiency with precision measurement devices, torque wrenches, DFT paint gauges, and laser alignment tools. 

• Software & Digital Inspection: Hands-on experience completing digital checklists and tracking NCRs via tablet/laptop using mobile platforms such as Autodesk BIM360, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) or CxAlloy. 

•  Quality Certifications: ISO 9001 internal auditor certification, CWI (Certified Welding Inspector), or equivalent trade certifications highly preferred
