Summary
This position is located in a Youth Regional Treatment Center (YRTC) located in Hemet, CA. The position is responsible for performing cook duties working alone or with a lower-level graded cook. This position reports directly to the Food Service Worker Supervisor. Duties
Prepares food for diets according to menu. Prepares regular and special modified diets which may include entrees, desserts, vegetables, sauces, salads, and breads. Makes appropriate substitutions, when indicated and evaluates outcomes. Assists with physical inventory. Occasionally orders, receives and checks food deliveries using proper procedures as required by the department. Assists in collecting meal vouchers for cafeteria meal service. Utilizing standard recipes, follows measuring and preparation instructions. Makes recipes modifications to meet changes in number of servings required and make food more attractive and to improve taste. Adjusts amount and proportions. They test and evaluate new food products and develop and modify standardized recipes. As required, cleans and maintain sanitary condition of equipment and work areas, sweeping and mopping floors, washing utensils, tables, refrigerators, and cleaning ovens and ranges. Works alone of with other food service personnel in performing routine and special cleaning duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning tables, food carts, windows, stoves, sinks, freezers and refrigerators in kitchen and dining room, sorting, stacking and washing dishes, pots and pans.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service.
