PURPOSE

Provide leadership, supervision and coordination of the maintenance personnel and engineering functions in the day-to-day planning and execution of all maintenance and engineering needs while meeting or exceeding safety and environmental regulations and performance goals. This position will have daily communications with operators, other management personnel and supervisors, engineers, operators, contractors, laboratory technicians, mechanics, shippers/blenders, the purchasing group, and vendors. A successful candidate will be able to provide technical skill and leadership to all those reporting to the position in order to avoid unnecessary delays, expenditures, and violations. Directs all engineering and maintenance personnel. This position requires knowledge of operations and procedures along with safe industry practices. In this role you would be required to make decisions and set priorities that require evaluating potential safety and environmental risks associated with various alternatives as well as maintaining customer satisfaction and on time deliveries of the correct product.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes a safety standard and ensures safety performance for the Engineering and Maintenance Department, employees and contractors by ensuring that engineering and maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with safety and environmental procedures.
  • Directs work to efficiently meet or exceed operational utilization goals through sound preventative maintenance.
  • Meets or exceed annual engineering department goals and capitol project expenditures while supporting plant goals and budgets.
  • Ensures that training programs are created, implemented and maintained for continuous development of skills within the engineering and maintenance departments.
  • Continuously seeks improvements within engineering and maintenance departments’ processes to reduce annual expenses and streamline requirements of the department.
  • Leads maintenance activities of engineers and maintenance as coordinated with other departments.
  • Strategize to create systems and procedures for the engineering and maintenance department employees, reduce down time and streamline where possible.
  • Utilizes problem solving skills in determining more effective and efficient manners of completing maintenance and engineering projects.
  • Provides direct or indirect technical support to collaborate with all plant departments (Operations, Shipping, Laboratory, Sales, Purchasing, Accounting, etc.) to determine and fulfill plant needs.
  • Troubleshoots plant equipment and processes to determine solutions to problems and to improve operations.
  • Assess self and personnel competencies and identifies needs and opportunities to teach proficiencies and skills or coach employees toward performance levels required to sustain a capable work force.
  • Effectively communicates with all levels of employees from management to employees and co-workers.
  • Promote team building within the maintenance department and while working on engineering projects.
  • Resolve conflicts that may arise within the course of engineering projects or within the maintenance department.
  • Supports and assists in the development of plant HSEQ programs.
  • Willingness and ability to relocate to, or commute on a daily basis to, Dickinson, Texas without company assistance.
  • Ability to effectively manage rapid organizational changes while maintaining operational responsibility.

  • Proven knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and have impact on others in a non-confrontational manner.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES

  • Legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States now and in the future
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in oil and gas industry plant operations
  • Supervisory experience

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Risk identification, assessment and problem solving abilities
  • Business acumen and cost management experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to be available 24 hrs/day in emergency situations
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours per week or 8 hours per day as conditions dictate
  • Ability to perform basic physical functions such as stooping, balancing, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, working overhead, and in confined spaces
  • Ability to work around hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon products
  • Ability to work in situations of high stress
  • Ability to effectively utilize various PC programs
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and set proper priorities
  • May be required to wear an air purifying respirator and SCBA while performing duties
