Job Description

The Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Risk Advisory team serves as a key first-line-of-defense risk partner across the CRE organization. The team provides oversight, guidance, and support for a broad range of operational risk activities, including issue management and remediation, audit support, escalated customer complaint resolution, procedure governance, business continuity planning, third-party oversight, risk and control activities, change management initiatives, and process improvement efforts. Team members work closely with business leaders to strengthen controls, improve operational effectiveness, and ensure risks are appropriately identified and managed.

This role partners with multiple CRE business units to help navigate complex operational challenges and organizational change. Responsibilities may include investigating and resolving business issues, identifying process gaps, coordinating remediation efforts, advising on controls and governance, supporting audits and regulatory activities, assessing operational impacts of business changes, and driving process improvement initiatives. The position requires a consultative approach, strong problem-solving abilities, and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to develop practical solutions that balance business objectives, client needs, and risk considerations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted risk advisor to Commercial Real Estate business partners on operational risk matters, controls, governance, and procedural requirements.
  • Support issue identification, root cause analysis, remediation planning, and resolution of operational risk events.
  • Partner with business leaders to evaluate risks associated with new initiatives, organizational changes, and business process enhancements.
  • Lead and facilitate process improvement initiatives, including process mapping, control evaluation, and workflow optimization.
  • Coordinate and support internal audits, regulatory examinations, and remediation activities.
  • Assist with risk and control documentation, governance activities, and ongoing monitoring efforts.
  • Support business continuity planning, third-party oversight, and operational resiliency initiatives.
  • Assess downstream impacts of organizational and business changes and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across risk, compliance, audit, legal, operations, and business functions to address complex issues.
  • Monitor operational risk trends and emerging concerns and provide recommendations to strengthen business processes and controls.
  • Communicate risk-related findings, recommendations, and project updates to business leadership and key stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
  • 10 or more years of applicable experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert understanding with risk management, issue remediation, audit tracking, and governance processes.
  • Expert understanding of business operations, products, services, systems, and associated risks and controls
  • Strong understanding of applicable laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends
  • Ability to build credibility and effectively partner with senior business leaders and stakeholders
  • Strong process facilitation, project management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent presentation, relationship management, and negotiation abilities
  • Well-developed analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Business acumen with the ability to proactively identify and address evolving business needs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and databases
  • Experience with nCino and Archer preferred.
  • Experience utilizing technology solutions to support operational risk, controls, and process improvement initiatives.


Location expectations This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $124,355.00 - $146,300.00
