Duties

The U.S. Border Patrol is the primary federal law enforcement organization responsible for preventing the entry of terrorists and their weapons from entering the United States between official U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) ports of entry. Border Patrol's traditional mission is to enforce immigration laws and to detect, interdict, and apprehend those who attempt to illegally enter or smuggle people or contraband across U.S. borders between official ports of entry and to prevent the entry of terrorists and weapons of terrorism. Border Patrol enforces the laws that protect America's homeland through the detection, interdiction, and apprehension of those who attempt to illegally enter or smuggle any person or contraband across our Nation's border. As Chief Patrol Agent, U.S. Border Patrol Academy you will plan, direct, and implement all facets of the Border Patrol Program and related activities in the Academy. The main functions of the Border Patrol training program are to prevent illegal entry of migrants into the United States by land, sea, or air, to seek out and apprehend migrant smugglers, and to enforce all of the criminal provisions of the Immigration and Nationality laws. The Border Patrol training programs at the Academy include responsibility for determining trends of migrant activities through operational studies and for seeking out and furnishing information of a strategic nature to assist in future planning, and for continuously developing modifications to techniques and methods whereby the basic responsibility of the Border Patrol is carried out. The Border Patrol program also involves working in cooperation with and furnishing general assistance to DHS in preventing the illegal importation of contraband, including nuclear material, into the United States, and assuming specific responsibilities with regard the prevention of illegal traffic in narcotics. Requirements

Conditions of Employment Must be a U.S. Citizen. All pre-employment processes will be conducted in English. You may be required to pass a background investigation. CBP follows the DHS Drug-Free Workplace Plan for drug testing procedures. You will be required to carry a firearm and maintain firearm proficiency. Subject to a 1-year supervisory probationary period (unless already completed). Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so. May be subject to pre-employment and random drug tests File a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report OGE-278e within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on. You may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. Organizational and geographical mobility is essential in developing and managing SES leaders. Individuals selected for SES positions may be subject to reassignment across geographical, organizational, and functional lines, and may be required to sign a Reassignment Rights and Obligation Agreement. Veterans' preference is not applicable to the SES. Proficiency in speaking the Spanish language is required. Qualifications and evaluation

A "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" is generally defined under the statute as any offense involving the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by the victim's current or former domestic partner, parent, or guardian. The term "convicted", as defined in the statute, excludes any person whose conviction has been expunged, set-aside, or pardoned or any person whose civil rights have been restored unless the pardon, expungement or restoration of civil rights expressly prohibits the possession of firearms or ammunition. Candidates who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence within the meaning of the referenced statute are not qualified for this position. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense. False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment (TITLE 18, U.S.C., SECTION 1001).
